LHG's results on track

The volume of goods handled by the Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft (LHG) in 2020 stood at 21.8 million t, a mere 2% lower, year-on-year. Increases in the last four months of the year helped keep the decline moderate.

The port operator’s automobile activities grew by 20% year-on-year, to 84,000 vehicles. Container throughput also did well, growing by 8% to 60,000 teu. Most other divisions, including the high-volume ro-ro sector, declined moderately. The forest products unit receded by 7.5%, for structural reasons.

Baltic Rail Gate, LHG’s intermodal subsidiary, also caught up well in the last four months of the year; its 112,700 units were almost equivalent to last year’s figure.

Managing director Sebastian Jürgens is convinced that “concentrating our forest product activities on the Skandinavienkai is the right strategic approach. This will free up areas in our terminals that we can use optimally for other activities. Over and above this we’ll also focus on expanding Baltic Rail Gate and our intermodal traffic." (cd)
