Leipzig/Halle airport sets new monthly record
Last month, a total of 112,587 t of cargo were handled at Leipzig/Halle airport (LEJ), the second largest cargo airport in Germany and number five in Europe. This represents a year-on-year increase of 6.5%, marking a new absolute record month in the company’s history.
From January to October, cargo volumes at the East Germany's airport rose by 1.3% to 1,025,193 t. Local cargo handling has been rising for 13 years in succession and is currently well above the national trend, which was down by 3.6% in October.
Götz Ahmelmann, CEO of the airport operator Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG: "The new record for air cargo volume once again underlines that our airport is one of the most dynamically growing cargo airports in the world." (ah)
