LDZ to reject competition council’s ruling
The Latvian rail carrier LDZ Cargo abused its dominant position and has to pay EUR 5.7 million for violation of the law, the European competition council (CC) ruled, according to Latvijas Dzelzceļs (LDZ).
The rail company rejects the CC's accusation. "LDZ and its freight branch LDZ Cargo have not created such conditions that would prevent other businesses from engaging in cross-border freight transport," the company argues and adds: «Latvian has free market conditions and, as every private carrier, LDZ and LDZ Cargo also have unrestricted and direct rights to provide international freight transportation.»
According to a press release, the company will not consider the decision of the CC to be justified and will now make decisions on further action. (ben)
