Laurels for Palau in US port state control examinations

The United States Coastguard (USCG) targets flags for additional port state control examinations if their detention ratio scores are higher than the three-year rolling average detention record.

The Palau International Ship Registry (Pisr) has recorded a zero percentage detention record with the USCG in the latest figures issued for the 2016-2018 port state control examinations.

In the two year period, twelve Palau-flagged vessels were examined for safety issues and there were only three recording deficiencies.

Panos Kirnidis, CEO of Palau International Ship Registry, expresses his satisfaction: “Over the last three years, we introduced our deficiency prevention system (DPS) for our fleet of 400 ships. The DPS is a dedicated service providing support to ensure a vessel’s compliance with required international conventions.” (cd)
