Latam Cargo gives wings to Brazilian bears
As the latest project of a partnership initiated in 2009 between Latam Cargo Brazil and the institute of environment and renewable natural resources, the airline recently transported two bears from Fortaleza to São Paulo in Brazil.
The animals travelled in specially designed transport containers for loading into the cargo hold of a B767-300. The loading of the 1.3 t boxes was overseen by veterinarians and animal protection experts. Preparation of the aircraft began six hours in advance of the flight’s departure time and involved over 20 Latam Cargo co-workers.
The bears, who had lived in a zoo, were rescued from a circus and will now be welcomed by an ecological sanctuary association in the state of São Paulo, which specialises in wildlife preservation and cares for animals that have been kept in captivity. (ah)
