Last mile service for pipe transport
Russian Railways Logistics (RZDL) is transporting steel pipes for the building of the gas mains in the Samara Region in Russia.
As part of this project, the logistics provider offers a “last mile” service comprising the reception of freight at the Syzran 1 station, the transhipment onto vehicles and the delivery to the gas pipeline’s building site in Samara’s Syzran district.
In total, 500 pipes will be transported, involving 134 gondola wagons. The dimensions of the freight are remarkable: every pipe measures 1,402 in diameter, 12 m in length and weighs 9 t.
Because the pipes have an anti-corrosion coating, they are unloaded with soft slings and the cargo is secured with special rubberised fixtures on the trucks for road haulage. (ben)
