LA port stable despite global trade slowdown
In August, the port of Los Angeles saw a notable 3% increase in container traffic, handling 828,000 teu compared to the same month last year. This uptick marks the port's first yoy monthly growth in 13 months. The boost was driven by a 7% increase in loaded imports and a significant 22% rise in loaded exports. Empty container numbers declined by 10%.
Despite this positive development, the port has processed 21% fewer teu in the first eight months of 2023 compared to the same period last year, with a total of 5,649,686 teu. Port officials expect the trend of eased global trade to persist in the coming months. (pb)
