KTZ to build over 1,400 km of rail lines
Kazakhstan Railway (KTZ) is to build new lines on the Dostyk-Moiynty, Bakhty-Ayagoz, Darbaza-Maktaaral sections and a bypass around Almaty within three years. Some of these projects are already underway.
The modernisation and extension of the Dostyk-Moiynty rail section has been completed, expanding capacities on this section fivefold. The construction of the Almaty bypass has also begun. It is expected to reduce traffic within this urban hub by 40% and shorten delivery times for goods passing through the city.
The construction of the Darbaza-Maktaaral railway line will be launched on 25 November and works on the Bakhty-Ayagoz railway line are scheduled to start in December. The new line will increase freight traffic to China, KTZ said. (ben)
