Kombiverkehr: modal shift reduced in 2023
With a total of 815,467 truckloads (one load corresponds to the capacity of a truck-trailer combination), or 1.63 million teu, the overall number of containers, swap bodies and semitrailers transported dropped by 15.9% last year compared with 2022.
Transport volumes contracted within the national as well as the international business units. Some of the main reasons for this decline were the weak economy in Europe and difficult market conditions.
Nevertheless, Kombiverkehr posted an increase in volumes in April and May 2024, on some routes exceeding the quantity of consignments for the same months the previous year. Furthermore, it launched also new services to and from Benelux and Southeast Europe during H1/2024. (ben)
