Kiwi Rail prepares for next peak season
Kiwi Rail is launching a new weekday rail service between Auckland and Christchurch to help New Zealand businesses that are grappling with disrupted ports and shipping lines. From early October, "NZ Connect" will depart Auckland daily Monday to Friday and link up with the Interislander ferries before continuing to Christchurch.
New Zealand’s national carrier will use 60 ft wagons to provide up to 300 teu of additional weekly capacity, alongside its existing weekly services.
The new offer will boost capacity and connections for moving domestic freight between the North and South Islands in time for the peak season, the company said. (ben)
