Kiel port with dual shore power supply

The port of Kiel successfully provided shore power to two cruise ships, “MSC Euribia” and “AID Anova”, simultaneously for the first time on 30 May. This achievement followed the successful integration of “MSC Euribia” into the shore power system, allowing it to operate nearly emissions-free while docked at Ostuferhafen.

The “Costa Diadema” is also nearing its first shore power connection, and “Mein Schiff 1” from TUI Cruises recently completed its shore power tests. The port aims for 100 shore power connections this cruise season, with over 150 MWh supplied to three cruise ships over the weekend.

The newly completed shore power facility at Ostuferhafen and the existing dual-purpose facility at Ostseekai enable parallel connections. Plans are underway to expand the Ostseekai facility by mid-2025 to support three cruise ships simultaneously. The port of Kiel's investments in this infrastructure drive eco-friendly maritime tourism, with connections at all major ferry and cruise terminals. (pb)
