Khalifa Port sticks to its goals in 2021
Abu Dhabi Ports has confirmed that the Khalifa Port’s expansion plans are on pace for completion. The port enhancement scheme, originally announced in December 2019, has progressed significantly since then, despite the challenging conditions presented by the global pandemic.
Upon completion, the project is expected to substantially increase handling volumes by providing additional deepwater access and enhanced infrastructure. To date, 200 m of quay wall and almost 175,000 sqm of land in the Khalifa Port Logistics complex (KPL) have been handed over ahead of the completion of the project’s first phase in Q1/2021.
Considerable progress has also been made on the first phase of Khalifa Port’s south quay development, slated for completion by Q4/2020. With 80% of construction already complete, a total of 650 m of quay wall, containing two berths alongside a 37,000 sqm terminal yard, is now available.
Progress has also been made on Abu Dhabi Terminals’ expansion plans, with the delivery of five new ship-to-shore cranes. Saif Al Mazrouei, the head of the ports cluster with Abu Dhabi Ports, said that "the Khalifa Port container terminal is on track to meet its target of 5 million teu throughput by the end of this year."
