Kenya Railways gets three Rolls-Royces

As part of a significant railway refurbishment project to enhance sustainable rail transport in the wider East African region, Kenya Railways (KRC) has repowered three of its retired heavy haulage locomotives. In collaboration with Rolls-Royce and engineering services provider SMH Rail, the locomotives have been upgraded with state-of-the-art mtu Series 4000 engines.

These engines are designed to withstand the demanding conditions of freight transportation and provide cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable operations for Kenya Railways. They will deliver increased horsepower, enabling the locomotives to handle heavier loads in challenging landscapes with improved fuel and oil economy, KRC said. (ben)
