Just feed the trolls!

Norse Atlantic Airways has performed the first landing of a B787 Dreamliner at Troll Airfield (QAT) in Antarctica, transporting 12 t of essential research equipment and scientists to the remote research station in Queen Maud Land. Starting from Oslo, the aircraft made a stop in Cape Town, spending over 40 hours in South Africa before its historic landing on 15 November.

Camilla Brekke, director of the Norwegian Polar Institute: "The most crucial aspect is the environmental gain we can achieve by using large and modern aircraft. This opens up entirely new possibilities for logistics at Troll."

Daniel Carey, air broker and spokesperson for the Scandinavian air broker Aircontact: "We've been involved in missions to the Antarctic for years. The Dreamliner's huge cargo space makes it perfect for these flights." (ah)
