July was special in Frankfurt
Cargo traffic at Frankfurt airport, Europe’s major hub, continued its growth momentum in July, despite the ongoing shortage of belly capacities on account of less passenger aircraft in the skies. Passenger traffic (2.85 million travellers) registered only a moderate recovery in comparison with 2020.
In July FRA’s cargo throughput (airfreight and airmail) grew by 30% year-on-year, to more than 196,000 t. Compared to July 2019, cargo was 9.8% up. Aircraft movements climbed by 79.5% year-on-year, to almost 27,600 takeoffs and landings. Accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOW) rose by 68.5% to just under 1.7 million t in July.
The Fraport Group’s airports around the world also continued an upward trend in July 2021. Traffic at all airports increased significantly, with year-on-year figures partly rising by several hundred percent – albeit based on the sharply reduced traffic levels of July 2020. (ah)
