Joint effort: rotor sails for LNG
Anemoi Marine Technologies and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group have partnered to develop rotor sail designs for two LNG carrier newbuildings. The collaboration aims to assess the feasibility of creating rotor sails for installation on LNG carriers, meeting current and future environmental targets.
Rotor sails are seen as a practical technology for improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions in shipping, and they are being increasingly used to harness wind power for fuel savings. Especially, as rotor sails are ideal for modern LNG carriers due to the large amount of available deck space and limited impact on cargo operations.
This partnership is expected to promote the adoption of rotor sail technology for LNG carriers while addressing emission regulations and enhancing the efficiency and eco-friendliness of gas carrier design. (pb)
