Joining forces for sustainable lorries
On 18 September 2023, Formula One and DHL reported that the new biofuel-powered truck fleet reduces CO2 emissions by an average of 83 % compared to diesel-powered trucks. The trucks were used for the first time for the European leg of the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship.
The 18 new trucks are powered by hydrotreated vegetable oil and covered more than 10,600 km between the nine European circuits, which ended in August with the race in Monza. The partners plan to use the biofuel in 2024 and beyond.
Both partners are looking for more opportunities as they move toward Formula 1's net-zero goal by 2030. The biofuel-powered trucks perform as well as diesel-powered vehicles in terms of charging capability and driving distance. (mk)
