Joachim Werner wins European safety award
Iveco engineer Joachim Werner has won this year’s European commercial vehicle safety award. Created in 1990, the prize is presented annually by the European Association for Accident Research and Analysis, the German vehicle inspection company Dekra, and the same country’s road safety council DVR (Deutscher Verkehrssicherheitsrat).
Werner started his career as a development engineer at Iveco Magirus in Ulm in 1987. As a project manager for Stralis Truck Safety he was involved in the further development of passive truck safety systems, such as an integral cab safety concept for occupant protection.
Later on Werner made important contributions to the creation of active driver assistance systems. These include lane-departure warning systems, the emergency brake assistant and the automatic distance control system. (cj)
