Jaxport with new record in fiscal year
The Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport) set a new container volume record of more than 1.4 million teu moved in fiscal 2021 (to 30 September), a rise of 10% year-on-year and of 5% over 2019, its previous record year for container volumes.
Jaxport had no vessels waiting at anchorage throughout the pandemic, maintaining congestion-free landside and waterside operations. The shipping line Hapag-Lloyd even “adapted to market needs” temporarily and re-routed a European container service via Jaxport.
The port’s auto business almost returned to pre-pandemic levels, with more than 616,000 vehicles moving through Jaxport during the year, a 13% increase over 2020.
Jaxport CEO Eric Green said that “our workers, operators and service providers have shown that Jaxport is a part of the solution to the nation’s congestion problems.” (sh)
