Jaxport bounces back too
The global recovery of the automobile manufacturing industry is also driving growth in the Jacksonville Port in Florida (Jaxport).
In the first quarter of its fiscal year, which started in October 2020, the port’s vehicle volumes grew 7% year-over-year compared to the first quarter in 2019. The total volume amounted to 186,000 vehicles.
The port’s container volumes are rebounding as well, up 5% year-to-date. More than 353,000 te were handled during the quarter.
A number of the port's projects will be nearing completion in 2021. The deepening of the Jacksonville shipping channel and a new vessel turning basin to allow larger ships to turn at Blount Island berths are underway. (cd)
