Japan–UK by ship and rail in just 42 days
Russian Railways (RZD) and Maersk have launched the first transit container train with cargo from Japan on the Trans-Siberian route. Maersk recently dispatched the first container train loaded with Japanese freight from the Nakhodka-Vostochnaya station along the Trans-Siberian Railway.
The train includes 40 forty-foot containers with sportswear and equipment that were shipped from Yokohama by sea to the port of Vostochny, where they were loaded onto the railroad.
The train will travel to the port of St. Petersburg for subsequent shipment by sea to Felixstowe in UK. The total transit time from Japan to UK is expected to be about 42 days. The train will cover 10,000 km by rail. (ben)
