Jade Weser Port electrifies hinterland connection
The environmental management in Jade Weser Port Wilhelmshaven, Germany’s deep-water container port, has gained Pers certification for the third time since 2015 and 2018.
Pers is the acronym for port environmental review system, a special tool that used for the comprehensive analysis and monitoring of environmental management in ports. The certificate was issued by the international organisation Eco Ports headquartered in Brussels.
The port based its application for the renewal of the certificate on the latest environmental report released by the JadeWeserPort-Realisierungsgesellschaft (JWPR). For the first time, this report included plans for the electrification of the port’s rail links.
Among others, the project envisages the transformation of the Oldenburg – Wilhelmshaven section, the approx. 4 km long access track and the pre-routing group with its 16 tracks by 2022. (mw)
