Jacksonville's port expands its horizons
In the 2024 state of the port address, Jaxport CEO Eric Green outlined growth initiatives, infrastructure projects, new trade lanes, and partnerships. Key developments include direct container service with South America, an agreement with Enstructure for expanded breakbulk cargo storage, and a passenger cruise service with Norwegian Cruise Line.
The USD 72 million modernisation of the SSA Jacksonville container terminal is halfway complete, aiming to double container capacity by 2025. Eco-friendly equipment is being added, and new industrial real estate is driving growth outside the port. Jaxport moved over 1.3 million containers in fiscal year 2023, maintaining its status as Florida's largest container port. (pb)
