Italian-Swiss cooperation to boost rail traffic
The FS Italiane Group and the Swiss Hupac Group recently signed an MoU aimed at creating more intermodal land and maritime services in Italy and to and from Europe.
By jointly developing and managing terminals to improve the quality of intermodal transport and expand their railfreight networks, the partners hope to reach the European green targets in Italy and increase the share of goods transported by rail to 30% by 2030.
Activities will focus on land-based intermodal services and the expansion of freight traffic to and from ports, using existing rail and land-based intermodal connections.
The two companies are already cooperating in other projects, such as the ongoing construction of three new terminals in Italy – in Milan, Brescia and Piacenza. (ben)
