Italian intermodal operator upgrades fleet
Mercitalia Intermodal will introduce the “Waggon Tracker” system developed by PJM, an Austrian specialist for rail digitalisation. This year, the affiliate of FS Italiane plans to upgrade at least 180 wagons with smart train functions in order to automate processes in track operations.
Around 200 wagons - mainly of the T3000 type - have been already modernised over the past two years. The aim is to shorten delivery times, reduce costs and increase reliability, efficiency, and the overall safety of rail transport.
Mercitalia Intermodal specialises in unaccompanied combined transport services and manages a group of wagon platforms used in domestic verand international traffic. (ben)
