Ireland and Indiana to tighten trade ties
Ports of Indiana and the port of Cork have signed an MOU to collaborate on economic, environmental, and technology initiatives, with plans to explore a direct container service from Ireland to Indiana.
The partnership aims to support mutual growth by enhancing trade in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and manufacturing, as well as developing decarbonisation efforts such as a "green shipping route" to reduce emissions. The initiative will leverage Cork's new container terminal and Indiana's upcoming terminal at Burns Harbour, set to open in 2026.
The signing ceremony comes one day after Indiana governor Eric Holcomb announced that Air Lingus plans to launch a new direct flight service between Dublin, Ireland, and Indianapolis, Indiana. (pb)
