Investor at the Seine for exports
The call for projects in June 2021 by Haropa Port to find a new assignment for a 750,000 sqm platform, located at the platform Grand Crown - Moulineaux that offers a river, rail, sea and road connection, has come to a conclusion.
The industrial site, next to the Terminal Conteneurs et Marchandises Diverses (TCMD), was left vacant in 2020 after the departure of the Renault group. Among the six candidates in the running, the jury selected the project led by the company Al Khaleej Sugar (AKS), which is based in the port of Jebel Ali in Dubai (United Arab Emirates).
Al Khaleej Sugar (AKS), which means "the sugar of the Gulf", was created in 1992 to operate the first sugar refinery located in the Persian Gulf region. The factory belongs to the Emirati family group headed by Jamal Al Ghurair.
The company aims to set up in France one of the largest white sugar production plants in Europe there with an annual production of 650,000 to 850,000 t of white sugar also for export to the Maghreb, Italy, Spain and UK. The planned investment is estimated at several hundred million euros. For Haropa Port, this establishment should result in a flow of 30,000 to 37,000 teu per year (sh)
