Investment and harmonisation of EU laws
Goods volumes in combined transport rose by 8% in 2021, and transport performance improved by as much as 9.5%. The German industry associations DSLV and VDV are now demanding clear guidelines in European law to further exploit this mode’s performance potential.
For example, the 31-year-old directive on the establishment of common rules for certain types of combined transport is long overdue. Brussels must act urgently here.
According to the two associations, concrete steps are now required to harmonise EU legislation in this area. They are also calling for more investment in combined traffic and in its infrastructure, such as the building of new terminals and the expansion of existing ones. (ben)
