Investing in the port of Novi Sad
The logistics company P & O Port Dubai (UAE), which bought the Serbian port of Novi Sad in May 2019, will invest around EUR 29 million in the port company to develop the facility. The construction of a new 189 m vertical quay wall, new silo capacities, new handling equipment and the refurbishment of existing machinery, plus the installation of a terminal operating system will be part of the development plan.
The port of Novi Sad is a public-private partnership between P&O Ports and the Serbian government to operate the port and to create an intermodal terminal and logistics centre with rail, road and inland waterway links to the rest of Europe. P&O Ports, wholly owned by the government of Dubai, will operate Novi Sad port for an initial 25 years with an option for both parties to renew the agreement for another 25 years.
The port is situated on a 240,000 sqm site along the bank of the Danube with an estimated throughput of currently around one million t a year. (cd)
