Investing in Barcelona’s hinterland network
On the Zaragoza - Caspe - Tarragona line in Northeastern Spain, infrastructure manager Adif is extending the sidings at Chiprana, Nonaspe and Flix stations by 750 metres.
Among other things, the EUR 10 million project includes changes to the track system and routing as well as the modernisation of safety and communication systems. The longer sidings will allow to park trains of a standard length, which will improve the interoperability and performance of the railway network, Adif explains.
The expansion is part of an agreement between Adif, Puertos del Estado and the Port Authority of Barcelona (APB) and is financially supported by the EU. The aim is to strengthen railfreight services to and from the port of Barcelona. (ben)
