Investing billions of francs in road network
Switzerland is planning to spend around CHF 2.8 billion on the construction, expansion, maintenance, and operation of its national road network this year.
The federal department of the environment, transport, energy and communications (Detec) approved the "2023 programme for the national roads in operation" and the "2023 construction programme for the completion of the network", after parliament had adopted the budget.
The credit provides for CHF 1.6 billion for the maintenance and expansion of the existing national roads network and CHF 482 million for larger projects within the framework of the strategic development programme for national roads (Step).
A further CHF 453 million will be invested in the operation of the national roads and CHF 264 million in the completion of the plans for the national road network agreed in 1960.
