Intra-Italian rail link launched
The new train runs between the Vecon-PSA terminal in the Venetian industrial port of Maghera and the intermodal terminal in Montirone in the province of Brescia in northern Italy. It is operated by the MIS Group primarily for the Italian metal construction company GME Metals, which is increasingly using rail to reduce road haulage and thus CO2 emissions.
The new train hauls 23 60-foot wagons and has a loading capacity of 46 containers. An initial 50 round trips per year are planned. There are onward train connections from Montirone to Rotterdam, which the MIS Group operates in partnership with SBB Cargo International. (ben)
