International deal revamps Brazilian port
Wilson Sons, a port-shipping logistics operator based in Brazil, is working with Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) and Bengal Tiger Line (BTL) to enhance maritime logistics on South America’s east coast. The partnership has introduced a feeder service with a hub at Rio Grande, Southern Brazil, to optimise cargo transfer between Asia and smaller South American ports.
This solution tackles the issue of shallow channels in Argentina and Uruguay that prevent larger vessels from docking. Smaller vessels pick up the cargo from the smaller ports and bring it to the port of Rio Grande, where it is transferred to a larger ship for the journey to Asia.
This strategic approach not only improves regional connectivity with major global markets but also enhances the efficiency of maritime operations in the region. The first service is scheduled to start with “Hyundai Grace” departing from Pusan on 16 April and arriving in Rio Grande on 25 May. (pb)
