Intermodal transport to Qingdao
Dimerco recently transported six light civil aircraft from the USA to China, despite lockdowns, port congestion, unfavourable weather conditions and a time-critical schedule. The re-assembly of the cargo and the testing took place on arrival at Guangyuan airport, to coincide with the granting of the customer’s flight permit application.
The intermodal journey for the fixed-wing aircraft weighing almost 12 t took from 10 May to 27 June. The cargo was carried by rail from Kansas to the port of Los Angeles, shipped across the ocean to the port of Qingdao, and then trucked to Sichuan.
The entire operation was coordinated by Dimerco teams in Chicago and Qingdao. In one critical phase the transit time was extended by a seven-day sailing delay at LAX, and congestion and bad weather in Qingdao. The customer was a light aircraft and business jet manufacturer. (sh)
