Intermodal hub in Zabaykalsk is growing
In cooperation with Zabaykalsk railway station, Russia’s largest container operator Trans Container dispatched a record number of 1,340 complete block trains loaded with Chinese cargoes from the Zabaykalsk terminal last year, 17% more than in 2020.
With an annual capacity of 390,000 teu, Zabaykalsk is the main inland railway container terminal on the Russian-Chinese border.
Trans Container and Russian Railways are currently implementing a project to enlarge the terminal’s capacity. Trans Container also acquired another terminal in Zabaykalsk in 2021, which will be reconstructed to handle containerised cargo. The operator’s cargo handling capacity in Zabaykalsk is expected to reach 500,000 teu by 2024. (ben)
