Intermodal growth via Łódź
LTG Cargo is expanding its intermodal railfreight network by adding two new connections, namely Kaunas–Łódź and Łódź–Duisburg. Łódź will serve as a new stop along the existing Kaunas–Duisburg corridor.
“As logistics change, there is an increasing need to combine different modes of transport to make the best use of each mode’s advantages,” LTG Cargo CEO Eglė Šimė said. Test runs are planned ahead of a planned launch in June.
The Łódź terminal will also offer first- and last-mile services in future, complementing existing hubs in Kaunas and Duisburg. As a rail hub, Łódź provides onward access to Polish ports and Italy. LTG Cargo has said that its intermodal operations saved more than 30,000 t of CO₂ in 2024, a figure expected to grow with the new routes. (js)
