Innovative trucks support recycling in Singapore
The words "Don't trash it, repurpose it" are written on the new Mercedes-Benz Econic waste collection vehicles in Singapore. In the city-state, not only waste avoidance, but also recycling is an important strategy for keeping the megacity clean.
For that, Sembcorp, the company entrusted with the city's waste disposal, relies on the new Mercedes-Benz Econic. A year ago, the waste disposal firm ordered a three-axle Econic for test purposes. After the first Econic successfully passed the test phase, Sembcorp ordered three more vehicles.
The trucks collect household waste in Singapore's city centre and on the exclusive island of Sentosa before delivering it to the recycling process. (ben)
