Innovative railcars are cost-efficient and quiet
DB Cargo and VTG have drawn a positive balance with regard to the innovative freight wagons the companies have been testing. Over a twelve-month trial period involving 150,000 km of journeys throughout Europe, the multifunctional wagons with a modular undercarriage have used 2% 3% less fuel.
Moreover, new digital modules that optimise customs clearance and operations have made them more cost efficient. Based on the good results, DB Cargo has now ordered over 300 innovative freight wagons, and VTG has included the newly developed railcars into its rental offering. (ben)
