Infrabel finds lessor
In Belgium, the railfreight operator Lineas has secured a EUR 42 million contract to lease 20 locomotives to the infrastructure manager Infrabel. Lineas transports goods throughout Europe with a fleet of almost 250 locomotives.
Infrabel has its own fleet of 81 locomotives, but some of them are not available due to maintenance work, breakdowns, and overhauls or because they have to be gradually equipped with the European safety system ETCS.
In addition, capacity utilisation fluctuates throughout the year. The infrastructure manager therefore needs a monthly buffer capacity of ten to 20 locomotives. The new leasing contract ensures that Infrabel has the right locomotives available when required. (ben)
