Indian Railways seizes opportunity
Indian Railways (IR) has taken a series of initiatives in the tariff and non-tariff field to boost freight operations. Total freight loading in the month of August 2020 (till 27 August 2020) amounted to 81.33 million t, 4.3% higher than the 77.97 million t recorded in the same month of last year.
Furthermore, Indian Railways has used the Covid-19 period to substantially increase the speed of its freight trains, aiming at a 72% increase in the average speed for the year 2020-21, the railway company reported. (ben)
