Indian Railways handles more raw materials


In the two quarters from April to September 2023 Indian Railways (IR) transported 758.2 million t freight, or 21.5 million t more compared to the same period last year, as the state-own railway enterprise announced recently.

 

In September alone the freight volume amounted 123.5 million t, which was 6.7% higher than in September last year. Coal accounted for the largest share in September 2023, with total of 59.7 million t, followed by iron ore (14.3 million t) and cement (6.3 million t).

 

Indian Railways says it has made sustained efforts to improve the ease of doing business of late, as well as improving delivery services at competitive prices. (ben)
