Indian cargo volumes fall by almost 3%
India’s airports handled 2.9% less airfreight last year than in 2018. As the country‘s airport authority AAI has now announced, the largest shares of the unloaded and loaded 3,34 million t of cargo were handled by hubs with volumes down from 2018, such as Delhi (990,000 t, -1.8%), Mumbai (896,000, -7.1%), Bangalore (379,000 t, -0.8%), Madras (371,000 t, -11.5%) and Kolkata (156,000 t, -1.1%).
The airports of Hyderabad (146,000 t, +2.1%), Ahmedabad (106,000 t, +6.1%) and Kochin (76,000 t, +8.8%) however reported an upward trend. Trivandrum (28,000 t, +11.9%) and Kalikut (25,000 t, +11%), though starting from a lower position, witnessed even stronger growth.
This development and other issues will no doubt be discussed at the next Air Cargo India exhibition and conference, which will be held in Mumbai exactly four weeks from now (25 - 27 February 2020). (ah)
