India plans three new freight corridors
India’s ministry of railways is implementing two dedicated freight corridors namely, the eastern dedicated freight corridor from Ludhiana to Dankuni (1,856 km) and the western dedicated freight corridor from Dadri to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (1,504 km). It is planned to complete these corridors in phases by December 2021.
In addition, India’s ministry of railways has decided to compile detailed project reports (DPR) for new dedicated freight corridors on the east coast corridor, on the east-west sub-corridor in particular.
In 2014, the India's dedicated freight corridor corporation (DFCCIL) was authorised to allow railway users including Indian Railways to run their own trains on the DFC network. (ben)
