India introduces rail green points
Indian Railways recently laid down policy guidelines to assign carbon saving points, called ‘rail green points’, to freight customers. The guidelines will be applicable by April 2022 and only to freight customers registered on the e-RD portal of the ‘Freight operation information system’ (Fois).
Every customer who places a demand for freight services online (on the e-demand module) will see a pop-up giving details of the expected saving of carbon emissions.
Once it is generated, the saving of carbon emission will be credited to the customer’s account in the form of ‘rail green points’, with the cumulative points also shown in his account on the freight business development portal. (ben)
