Increasing rail connectivity in India and Italy

APM Terminals has introduced new rail connections between a number of deep-sea terminals and the hinterland. In Gujarat (India), APM Terminals Pipavav has launched a rail service to its Kanpur inland container terminal. APM Terminals Pipavav is one of India's leading gateway ports for containers and liquid and dry bulk cargo.

That move follows on from a new link in Italy. A rail haulage service was established between the port of Vado Ligure and Rivalta Scrivia where Rail Hub Europe is based. The latter is a strategic hub for northern Italy’s logistics system.

During the first phase the trains haul low platform wagons that are suitable for carrying extra high high-cube containers, which provide additional stowage space. (ben)
