Increasing freight volume to Kaliningrad region
In cooperation with Transcontainer and other partners (Delo, Ecopolimery, Stroykeramika, Lazurit Cargo), Belarusian Railway has organised contrailer transportation between Russia’s Kaliningrad oblast–Lithuania–Belarus–Moscow and Moscow oblast.
The Kaliningrad Railway dispatched the first contrailer platform with an automobile semi-trailer on a container train. The transit time from Kaliningrad to Moscow oblast via Belarus was less than two days and twice as fast as road haulage with comparable tariffs.
The joint project is designed to increase the volume of freight transportation to Kaliningrad oblast. It plans to launch regular contrailer services by container trains after this successful trial run, Belarusian Railways said. (ben)
