Increased rail capacity to compensate low water level

As the water levels in the river Rhine are alarmingly low, Belgium rail freight operator Lineas is increasing its offer on key trains along the Rhine.

From 15 June throughout the summer, fourteen weekly Xpress services and additional capacity to the Mannheim region in Germany will facilitate the shift from barge to rail and ensure the continuity of supply chains. Next to more capacity for block trains and conventional SWL, this increase allows Lineas to provide up to 50% more capacity for intermodal volumes.

Specifically, Lineas will increase the Swiss Xpress from five to up to eight RTR per week, the Austria / Slovakia Xpress from three to up to six RTR per week, with regular extensions to Hungary as well as the Mannheim service by adding capacity for up to three RTR per week to Mannheim, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe.
