In Europe for the first time

The second of four Chipolbrok sisterships on course. A new generation of Chipolbrok multipurpose freighters is on its way. The second of four sister ships called at European ports for the first time recently. The vessels can load project cargo, as well as bulk and general cargo and containers.

Chipolbrok’s new ship was launched relatively recently. The vessel, the Herbert, was handed over last year to the Chinese-Polish Joint Stock Shipping Company (Chipolbrok), based in Shanghai and Gdynia, by the Chengxi shipyard, located near Jiangyin in China.

The Chinese shipyard already has a number of European customers on board. In the difficult year of 2021, for example, it launched two transloaders for bulk transports for Oldendorff Carriers, and a heavylift bulk carrier for a German-Canadian joint venture.

Four new multipurpose freighters

The first ship, the Tai Xing, represented the start in 2021. The series was built by the Chinese shipyard Chengxi, with the ship’s concept coming from the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute.

Each of the newbuildings is 199.9 m long and 32.3 m wide, with a deadweight tonnage of 62,000 grt. Fully loaded the ships have a draught of 13.5 m and their top speed comes to 14.4 knots.

The cranes on board the vessels can lift up to 300 t in tandem operations. In addition to project cargo as well as bulk and general cargo, the vessels also have the capacity to carry 804 teu on deck and 1,196 teu below deck.

On its maiden voyage the Tai Xing transported components for wind power plants. At the end of January the Herbert called at northern European ports for the first time, docking in Emden, Bremen, Gdynia and Hamburg. Wind power components remain in demand. 33 rotor blades, each measuring 73 m, were amongst the cargo unloaded in Emden.

The Pilecki and the Yong Xing are next up for delivery.
