Improving railfreight services in Belgium
Lineas and H.Essers are promoting their joint vision for a multimodal transport network in Belgium with the launch of the H.Essers Railport Genk. Allowing for an even easier cargo shift from road to rail, the rail terminal will improve railfreight services between Genk and Antwerp-Ghent-Zeebrugge.
The companies have been working together on the Belgium-Romania railfreight link for years. Last month, they also launched a regular and direct open freight train between Genk and Trieste (Italy). With this connection, Lineas is helping H.Essers to shift 9,000 road transports to rail and thereby reduce C02 emissions by 90%. (ben)
