Improving access to truck-to-rail transload in Illinois
The city of Peru in Illinois (USA) and Omnitrax will receive a USD 6,081 million grant for extensive track work on the transport company-managed Illinois Railway (IR).
It will improve crossing surfaces and install 40 km of 50 kg rail, 20,000 ties and seven switch sets, and 7,600 t of ballast along the 27-km corridor from Peru to Zearing, Illinois.
The first two elements of the project provided easier access to the truck-to-rail transload facility, pulled traffic away from downtown Peru and built a new access road and rail siding. Construction for the latest component will start in 2020 and will take several months to complete, according to Omnitrax. (ben)
